Scratch Builders
Drag-and-drop coding, but aimed at a finished game. Kids write the rules for a maze chase or a catcher game, playtest it on each other, then take the project link home so grandparents can play it too.

Circuit Lab is a coding and robotics workshop on Arizona Avenue. After-school labs, Saturday builds and school-break camps in Scratch, Python, Arduino and 3D printing. Eight kids per instructor, so nobody sits and waits.
What they actually build
Drag-and-drop coding, but aimed at a finished game. Kids write the rules for a maze chase or a catcher game, playtest it on each other, then take the project link home so grandparents can play it too.
Real typed code from week one. Variables, loops, conditionals and functions taught through small text games and a dice simulator, then a turtle-graphics art project. No prior typing speed required.
Breadboards, motors, distance sensors and a chassis. Kids wire a line-following robot, debug it when it drives into a wall, and run it in a Saturday time trial. This is the track that turns quiet kids loud.
Design in Tinkercad, slice it, print it, measure what went wrong, print it again. Kids leave with a keychain, a phone stand or a custom part for their robot, plus a real feel for tolerance and iteration.
Fall term · September to December 2026
Bring your kid to one full Saturday build at no charge. If it clicks, we place them in the right track. If it does not, you owe us nothing.
Sibling discount is 10 percent off the second child. We accept Empowerment Scholarship Account funds through ClassWallet and can send an itemized invoice the same day you ask.
What 90 minutes looks like
The instructor shows one new idea on the big screen and nothing more. Kids ask questions standing up, then head to their bench.
Everyone works on their own project at their own pace. The instructor and the lab assistant circulate the whole hour, so a stuck kid waits about a minute before someone is at their bench.
The last twenty minutes are demos to the group and a quick cleanup. You get a short note by text on Friday with a photo of what your kid made that week.
Who runs the room
My son went from hating homework to explaining loops to me at dinner.

Circuit Lab was started in 2019 by Dana Whitfield, a former Intel test engineer and Chandler parent, after she could not find a class that let kids actually build. Every instructor is fingerprint cleared, first aid certified and has taught kids in a classroom before joining the lab.
This goes straight to Dana's inbox. Most families hear back the same afternoon, and always within one business day.
