Ironwood Hybrid Academy, Scottsdale

Two days on campus. Three days at your table.

A classical K-12 school built around the hybrid week. Monday and Thursday your child is here, in a cohort of sixteen, with Latin from third grade and Socratic seminar in the upper school. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday the plan comes home with them.

Grammar School

Memory, phonics, arithmetic, chant

The years for storing things: the times tables sung, the Latin declensions chanted, the geography of Arizona and then the world drawn from memory. Campus days are teacher-led. Home days follow a printed packet with a 90-minute core.

What a home day asks of you

About ninety minutes of supervision in Grammar School. Less each year after that.

The packet lists the core for each home day in the order the teacher would run it, with the answer key sealed in the back. Parents check work, initial the log, and send questions to Wednesday office hours. Nobody at home is asked to teach Latin.

By Logic School the student holds the plan. By Rhetoric School most families report under half an hour a week of involvement beyond signing the log.

Paying with an ESA

We are an approved ClassWallet vendor. Most Empowerment Scholarship Account awards for grades 1 to 12 land between $7,300 and $8,100 a year, so a Grammar School family typically pays $70 to $135 a month for the difference. Kindergarten awards are lower; ask admissions for the current figure. Tuition is invoiced in ten monthly installments from August, and ESA families can direct-pay each invoice through ClassWallet with no card on file.

Faculty

Eleven teachers. Every one of them teaches on both campus days.

There are no part-time specialists at Ironwood. A teacher who leads a cohort on Monday is the same teacher who returns its quiz on Thursday and answers its questions on Wednesday. Average tenure is 3.4 years in a school that is four years old.

Questions parents ask on the tour

Answers before the visit.

Is this a homeschool co-op or a school?

A school. Ironwood is a private school registered with the Arizona Department of Education. Students are enrolled here, graded here, and receive an Ironwood transcript. Home days are directed by our teachers; parents supervise and sign the log.

What do I have to do on the three home days?

In Grammar School, about ninety minutes of sitting nearby, checking work against the sealed key, and initialing the log. From Grade 6 the student manages the weekly plan. Teacher office hours run Wednesday 10:00 to 12:00 by video for every cohort.

Can we use our ESA?

Yes. We are a ClassWallet vendor, so ESA families direct-pay each monthly invoice from their account. The seat deposit is usually paid by card and reimbursed through ESA once the school year begins. Admissions will walk you through it on the call.

What if my child's grade is full?

Join the waitlist at no charge. Waitlist order is by date. In 2026 we seated eleven waitlisted students before August 1. Grade 5 and Grade 12 are the only full cohorts for 2027-28 at the moment.

Is there a uniform, and is there sport?

A simple dress code, no uniform vendor. Students play in Scottsdale club and CYO leagues; the academy fields cross-country and a chess team. Campus days end at 3:00, which leaves the afternoon open.

Where do graduates go?

The first senior class graduates in May 2027. The class of eleven currently holds offers from Arizona State's Barrett Honors College, University of Arizona, Hillsdale, and Baylor.
